Dear HBO’s Girls
Uh…you’re funny and all and make some good points but people were not exaggerating the whiteness of this show.
I counted TWO people of color. The first was an Asian girl who got a job for being good at photoshop. The second was a black man who street harassed the main character.
This is not okay.
Also, way to handle BDSM and kink in an awful manner. It’s fine to have the asshole boyfriend be into kink and trying to incorporate it into he and his girlfriend’s sex life in a totally wrong way. It is not okay to have that as the only mention or example of kink/BDSM in your show and not, at the very least, have the woman in that relationship show any real interest in it (right now it looks like she’s enduring it) or to have that woman talk to her friends about it and have them provide some context. All you have to do is have someone else go ‘No, that sort of sex is fine but they way he’s doing it is not’. It’s not okay to just have her friends talk about what a freak he is and to have him be an emotionally abusive passive aggressive asshole.
In short, please be better at stuff Girls. I will watch the second episode in the hopes that these requests are met.
